Liverpool have reportedly opened talks with Juventus over a potential move for Kenan Yıldız, with the Turkish international emerging as a possible alternative to Bradley Barcola.
According to Florian Plettenberg, the Reds have made contact with Juventus and are prepared to offer a package worth €90 million (£77.7m), including add-ons, for the highly-rated 21-year-old.
It is a major development because Yıldız has seemingly appeared “out of nowhere” as Liverpool’s latest attacking target.
👀 Liverpool have turned to Yıldız
Liverpool have spent much of the summer pursuing Barcola, with the PSG winger believed to be their preferred target.
But if a deal for the Frenchman proves impossible, it appears Liverpool already have another exciting option in mind.
Kenan Yıldız.
And this isn’t simply a case of Liverpool monitoring his situation.
If Plettenberg’s information is correct, the Reds have already started talks with Juventus.
Even more remarkably, Liverpool could be prepared to spend €90m on the Turkish star.
Why Yıldız makes sense
At just 21, Yıldız already possesses enormous potential.
He’s comfortable operating from the left, but can also play centrally and behind the striker.
That versatility would be particularly attractive to Liverpool.
Iraola wants his attackers to be mobile and interchangeable, and Yıldız has the technical ability and intelligence to operate in different positions.
He is also capable of carrying the ball, taking on defenders and creating opportunities himself.
In other words, he fits the profile of the explosive attacking player Liverpool are looking to add.
Barcola or Yıldız?
This is where things get really interesting.
Liverpool reportedly want Barcola, and there have been increasingly positive developments surrounding their pursuit of the PSG winger.
But Liverpool aren’t going to sit around waiting indefinitely.
If PSG refuse to sell Barcola at Liverpool’s valuation, Yıldız could become the alternative.
And honestly, that’s not a bad Plan B.
The Turkish international is already showing the potential to become one of Europe’s elite attackers.
€90m is a serious statement
If Liverpool are genuinely prepared to offer €90m including bonuses, it demonstrates how highly the club rate Yıldız.
That’s a huge investment in a 21-year-old.
But Liverpool have already shown this summer that they are willing to spend serious money on players they believe can become long-term stars.
Yıldız would certainly fit that category.
And there’s another important factor.
He is young enough to potentially be a Liverpool player for the next decade.
Liverpool’s attack could be frightening
If Liverpool somehow managed to sign Yıldız, imagine the attacking options Iraola would have.
Yıldız.
Wirtz.
Isak.
Gakpo.
Ngumoha.
And potentially Barcola or another winger.
The amount of pace, creativity and technical quality would be frightening.
It would also give Iraola the ability to change his attacking system depending on the opposition.
Another twist in Liverpool’s transfer window
Only hours ago, reports emerged that Liverpool had reached an agreement with Ibrahim Mbaye over personal terms on a five-year contract.
Now we’re hearing that Liverpool have opened talks for Yıldız as a potential Barcola alternative.
There is clearly a lot happening behind the scenes.
Whether Liverpool ultimately land Barcola, Mbaye, Yıldız or potentially more than one of them remains to be seen.
But one thing is becoming increasingly obvious:
Liverpool are determined to strengthen their attack before the transfer window closes.
And if Barcola proves impossible to sign, Kenan Yıldız could be the man Liverpool turn to.
€90m.
Juventus negotiations.
A potential Barcola alternative.
This transfer window just keeps getting more interesting.
