Manchester City remain interested in signing Argentine midfielder Enzo Fernandez from Chelsea this summer, according to recent reports. Chelsea’s deadline for considering bids for the Argentina international - set for 17:00 UK last Friday - has since passed and the expectation in west London is for Fernandez to stay put, despite continued interest from the north-west. Enzo Fernandez is believed to be keen on reuniting with former Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca at Manchester City, with Pep Guardiola’s successor understood to be spearheading the interest from within the Etihad Stadium in the 25-year-old. However, having broken their club transfer record by paying £116 million to sign Elliot Anderson from Nottingham Forest back in June, all eyes are on Manchester City as they enter the business end of the transfer window. Man City remain interested in Enzo Fernandez Following the passing of Chelsea’s deadline, The Telegraph’s Matt Law has reported that those at Stamford Bridge expect Enzo Fernandez to remain a Chelsea player for the upcoming season. However, there is a belief in west London that a bid worth £120 million from Manchester City could yet be accepted by Chelsea. Fabrizio Romano has revealed that Manchester City have remained in active talks with Fernandez’s representatives over the weekend, and further reporting from Ben Jacobs has cited that should Rodri join Barcelona as expected in the coming days, City could choose to present Chelsea with a formal offer for Fernandez. As per Kieran Gill and Jack Gaughan of MailSport, City are unlikely to consider a deal for Fernandez dead but will not commit to meeting Chelsea’s valuation of the Argentine midfielder. Could Man City really sign Fernandez from Chelsea? It appears unlikely at present that Manchester City will surpass their record transfer mark for Enzo Fernandez with ease and without hesitation, having made Elliot Anderson their most expensive acquisition this summer. Lille’s Ayyoub Bouaddi represents a marginally cheaper alternative at a very early stage of his career and while he may not be the finished article, he is by no means incapable of making the jump to Manchester City. Chelsea and City share a tricky relationship and amid the hangover of the compensation dispute between the clubs over the latter's hiring of Enzo Maresca six months on from his exit from Stamford Bridge, there seems one hurdle too many for this deal to materialise. But given the finances secured for both Tijjani Reijnders and Rodri - who are headed for the Saudi Pro League's Al Qadsiah and La Liga's FC Barcelona for a combined sum in excess of £120 million - Manchester City certainly have the funds at their disposal in the final weeks of the summer market.
