Burnley bolster depleted goalkeeping department with free transfer swoop Burnley bolster goalkeeping department with free transfer deal Burnley have added some much-needed reinforcement to their goalkeeping department with the signing of experienced stopper Ben Amos. The 36-year-old arrives on a free transfer and signs a one-year deal at Turf Moor following his departure from Port Vale at the end of last season. Amos, who has made over 350 career appearances, becomes only the second ‘senior’ goalkeeper within Nicky Hayen’s squad, joining German Max Weiss. It’s understood Amos’ homegrown status was also a major factor in Burnley’s decision to bring him in. The former England Under-21 international has represented a number of clubs across his 18-year career, including Bolton Wanderers, Cardiff City, Charlton Athletic and Wigan Athletic, amongst others. He initially came through the youth ranks at Manchester United, making his competitive debut in a Carabao Cup tie against Middlesbrough in 2008. Click here His arrival comes after he was spotted watching Sunday’s pre-season friendly against Torino from the directors’ box. Also in attendance was Etienne Green, which surprised many given he supposedly left the club to join Danish side Fredericia last summer. But the 26-year-old shot stopper, a 2024 signing from St. Etienne, only made four appearances last season for his new club, before his time in Denmark - he only signed a one-year deal - was cut short by an ACL injury in March. Addressing why Green was in attendance, Clarets boss Nicky Hayen told the Burnley Express: “He's also injured. He's still recovering on a daily basis at the club.” Burnley have been left light on goalkeeping options after last season’s number one Martin Dubravka, as well as Vaclav Hladky, departed the club at the end of their contracts at the end of June.
