Dragon Lee moved one step closer to a World Heavyweight Championship match against Roman Reigns after defeating El Hijo de Dr. Wagner Jr. on the August 17 episode of WWE RAW. The two wrestlers met in the first round of the World Heavyweight Championship No. 1 Contender’s Tournament. With a future title opportunity on the line, both men put together a hard-fought match with plenty of big moves and close calls. In the end, Lee picked up the win by pinfall. Dragon Lee beats El Hijo de Dr. Wagner Jr. on WWE RAW to stay in the title hunt Both men took their time early in the match before Lee gained control with a side headlock. Wagner Jr. fought back with a shoulder tackle and a series of hard chops. He hit Lee with a Death Valley Driver for a near fall and followed it with a backbreaker. He then sent Lee over the top rope and hit a rolling senton to the floor. Lee eventually fought back with a kick, but Wagner Jr. answered with a superkick and slowed things down with a chin lock. The pace picked up again when Lee hit a stomp and a kick to Wagner Jr.’s face for another two-count. The two then traded chops before Lee connected with a German suplex and a Tornado DDT. Lee continued taking risks, diving over the top rope to take Wagner Jr. down at ringside. Once they returned to the ring, the two went back to trading strikes. Wagner Jr. responded with a big boot before heading to the top rope. Lee managed to stop him, climbed up himself, and stomped on Wagner Jr.’s chest for another near fall. However, Wagner Jr. caught Lee during a hurricanrana attempt and threw him across the ring. He then climbed to the top and hit a Frog Splash, but Lee kicked out. The AAA star kept up the pressure by dropping Lee across the top rope before hitting a superplex. Lee refused to stay down and responded with an inverted DDT. Lee finally hit Wagner Jr. with Operation Dragon and scored the three-count. The win sends Lee to the semifinals where he will face Rey Fenix after Fenix defeated El Fiscal earlier in the night.
