A-League bombshell as longest-serving coach exits club on eve of new season
Macarthur FC has been rocked by a major coaching change on the eve of the new A-League season, with long-time head coach Mile Sterjovski departing the club by mutual agreement.
The Bulls confirmed on Tuesday morning that Sterjovski’s contract had been mutually terminated ahead of the 2026/27 campaign, bringing an end to his six-year association with the club.

Sterjovski had been part of Macarthur since its formative years, initially joining as head coach of the Bulls FC Academy Men’s team before taking charge of the A-League side during the 2022/23 season.
He went on to oversee 120 matches across all competitions, including the A-League, Australia Cup, AFC Cup and AFC Champions League Two.
The highlight came during the 2023/24 season when Sterjovski guided Macarthur to Australia Cup glory, defeating Melbourne Victory at AAMI Park to secure the Bulls’ second title in the competition.
“Mile has been an integral part of the Bulls since the club’s formative years,” Macarthur said in a statement.
“Having been with the club since the beginning, Mile has made a lasting contribution to the culture and identity of Macarthur Bulls FC.
“His commitment to developing young players and strengthening the pathway from the Academy to the A-League will continue to influence the club for years to come.”
Sterjovski’s influence extended beyond the senior team, having played a significant role in developing Macarthur’s pathway during his time with the academy.
The club highlighted Oliver Jones and Jed Drew among the young players who progressed through the system before making their mark at A-League level.
“His work was instrumental in strengthening the Bulls FC Academy as a pathway to the A-Leagues, providing aspiring players with a clear pathway and an opportunity to progress into professional football,” the club said.
Macarthur thanked the former Socceroo for his “hard work, dedication and contribution” throughout his time with the Bulls and wished him well for the next stage of his career.
Attention will now quickly turn to who replaces Sterjovski, with Macarthur indicating an appointment could be imminent.
“The club is hopeful of appointing a new Head Coach in the coming days and will make no further comment on the matter until such an appointment has been made,” the statement read.
Sterjovski’s departure leaves the Bulls searching for a new leader just weeks out from the 2026/27 A-League season and brings an abrupt end to one of the club’s longest-standing relationships.
