Twist in race for Raiders Test gun with window for rival club to snatch signature — Whispers
The Raiders could grant Test backrower Hudson Young a one-week window to negotiate a deal with the PNG Chiefs.
Canberra are desperate to keep their Origin forward, but Young has been heavily linked to the Chiefs, who are able to offer tax-free contracts.

Knowing they can’t match the money the Chiefs can offer, the Raiders have tabled a three-year deal to Young, which would keep him in the nation’s capital until the end of 2030.
However, there’s been little movement between the two sides so Canberra are considering the option of giving Young permission to negotiate with the Chiefs according to CODE Sports, much like Penrith allowed Brian To’o to do.
To’o used the seven day window to negotiate a three-year deal with the NRL’s 19th team from 2028. It’s worth noting that To’o and Young share the same management.
Young is currently sidelined with an Achilles injury and won’t return until next season.
If he signs a deal with PNG, he’ll likely become the first superstar forward the club have added, with the Chiefs so far loading up the backline.
PNG are off to a flyer in their recruitment, signing To’o, Lomax, Jarome Luai and Connor Watson.
