2026 Junior Pan Pacific Championships - August 17-20, 2026 - UBC Aquatic Centre, Vancouver, Canada - LCM 50 Meters - Event Page - Live Results - Psych Sheets - Live Stream - Recaps - Prelims: Day 1 It’s the first night of finals in Vancouver for the 2026 Junior Pan Pacific Championships, where we will see our first champions crowned of the competition in the 50 butterfly, 200 freestyle, 100 backstroke, 200 butterfly, women’s 1500 free, men’s 800 free, and the mixed 4×100 medley relay. Kicking us off will be the 50 fly, as Gabi Brito (26.45) and Michika Enomoto (23.92) will lead our girls’ and boys’ heats, respectively, both of which set meet records in the prelims. We then move into the 200 free, where Abi Burke was the lone swimmer under 2:00 this morning on the girls’ side, and Luka Mijatovic, who touched nearly a full two seconds faster than the field in 1:46.86 for the boys, will look to carry that momentum into an individual gold. Lane Francis (USA) and Heidi Shumack (AUS) led the prelims in 1:00.57 and 1:00.76 in the girls’ 100 back as the only two performers in prelims under 1:01. For the boys, it was the 54.89 from Toya Hirata who claimed the top seed for this evening’s final. Japan’s Umi Ishizuka will lead the 200 fly with her prelims swim of 2:09.94, just ahead of Audrey Derivaux in 2:10.27. Ewan Dalrymple and David Sammons lead the charge for the US in the boys’ race, as the only two ‘A’ finalists under 1:59 in the prelims. Zayda Miehl and Paige Downey enter as the top two seeds for the US in the girls’ 1500 free, with times of 16:15.93 and 16:22.67, respectively. Mijatovic is set to compete in his 2nd event of the night as the heavy favorite in the boys’ 800 free in 7:46.57. Fellow US Swimmer Kennedi Southern also made her way onto the podium with a strong 26.87 swim to secure bronze for the US team. Helena Tripp of Canada was the only other swimmer to dip under the 27-second barrier, touching 4th in 27.09. Boys 50 Butterfly – Finals - Jr Pan Pacs Record: 23.92 – Michika Enomoto, JPN (2026) - World Junior Record: 22.96 – Diogo Ribeiro, POR (2022) Top 10: - Michika Enomoto (JPN) – 24.13 - Issa Kawai (JPN) – 24.19 - Celso Luis Santos (BRA) – 24.21 - Lukas Dunn (AUS) – 24.23 - Mike Rice (USA) – 24.24 - Tristen Waugh (AUS) – 24.27 - Jake Lloyd (USA) – 24.46 - Matias Chaillou (ARG) – 24.77 - Rui Hou (NZL) – 24.86 - Alex Mueller Amorim (BRA) – 24.98 In a final that saw all 10 finalist dip under the 25-second mark, and a top six separated by less than two tenths of a second. Japan’s Michika Enomoto maintained his top seeded status though the final to out-touch fellow countryman Issa Kawai by six hundredths of a second in 24.13 to claim the meet’s first gold medal on the boys side. Brazil Celso Luis Santos finished just two hundredths of a second off of the silver medal position in 24.21. A slew of talent would just miss the podium by a fingernail; those being Lukas Dunn (24.23), Mike Rice (24.24), and Tristen Waugh (24.27). Girls 200 Freestyle – Finals - Jr Pan Pacs Record: 1:56.15 – Erin Gemmell, USA (2022) - World Junior Record: 1:53.65 – Summer McIntosh, CAN (2023) Top 10: - Abi Burke (USA) – 1:58.34 - Jodie Mead (AUS) – 1:59.95 - Haruno Tanimoto (JPN) – 2:00.15 - Vivienne Zangaro (USA) – 2:00.74 - Ruka Yamazaki (JPN) – 2:00.88 - Elleigh Wise (CAN) – 2:02.62 - Asha Ring (AUS) – 2:02.65 - Mia Thomas (CAN) – 2:03.50 - Alyssa Lawson (NZL) – 2:05.26 - Olivia Emmett (NZL) – 2:05.54 The girls’ 200 freestyle, which saw only Abi Burke under the 2:00 mark in the prelims, would not be the same in the final. As she and Jodie Mead would both dip under that mark in the final, it would be Burke mounting a big final 100 to claim gold. Jodie Mead got out to a fast start on the field, as she battled with Burke just above her in lane 4, with each of them turning within two seconds of each other, with Burke out a touch faster in 58.27. Burke would grow her lead to a near full second on the next 50, and ultimately run away with the race, touching in 1:58.34, over a second and a half quicker than Mead in 1:59.95, who would settle for the silver. Burke was just off of her career-best from the US National Championships last month in Irvine, where she touched in 1:58.16. Japan’s Haruno Tanimoto would finish just outside of the 2:00 barrier in 2:00.15 to finish 3rd. Vivienne Zangaro of the United States finished just outside the podium positions in 4th place in 2:00.74. Mijatovic would take the win in 1:46.04, again just missing that NAG mark from 2003. He will contest the 800 free later this evening. Opening up this race, Mijatovic opened in 24.88, more than a half second quicker than the rest of the field. By the final turn home, he was a body length and a half ahead of the rest of the field. In the closing stages, Mijatovic was only racing the clock, as he would mark a new meet record, and finish nearly two seconds faster than silver-medalist Eita Kawaura in 1:47.95. Kai Joyner would make it a US pair on the podium in 3rd, touching in 1:48.38. Girls 100 Backstroke – Finals - Jr Pan Pacs Record: 59.59 – Katharine Berkoff, USA (2018) - World Junior Record: 57.57 – Regan Smith, USA (2019) Top 10: - Lane Francis (USA) – 1:00.47 - Alyssa Sagle (USA) – 1:00.83 - Heidi Shumack (AUS) – 1:00.90 - Cecelia Dieleke (ARG) – 1:00.93 - Lucy Weins (CAN) -1:01.25 - Misaki Kasahara (JPN) – 1:01.71 - Victoria Fernanda Garcia Caldera (MAX) – 1:02.56 - Allegra Crean (AUS) – 1:02.65 - Laura Menzies (NZL) – 1:03.46 - Yuzuki Ide (JPN) – 1:03.47 As expected af the prelims, this was going to be a tight battle for the podium, and a battle it was. Francis turned first in 29.23, just a finger-length ahead of the field, though it was a big close for Francis that helped seal the win for the American, touching one-tenth better than her prelims swim in 1:00.47. Her American counterpart Alyssa Sagle mounted a big final 25 meters to overtake Heidi Shumack of Australia for the silver to complete the 1-2 finish for the US in 1:00.83. Shumack would have to earn her bronze as well, finishing just three hundredths of a second better than Argentina’s Cecilia Dieleke in 1:00.90. Hirata would do just enough to hold on and snag the win for Japan in 54.43, a new lifetime best performance, just ahead of Muchirahondo in 54.63. Rounding out the podium was Brazil’s Davi Vallim Costa De Carvalho in 54.84, the only other swimmer in the final to dip under 55 seconds. Girls 200 Butterfly – Finals - Jr Pan Pacs Record: 2:07.82 – Airi Mitsui, JPN (2022) - World Junior Record: 2:03.03 – Summer McIntosh, CAN (2024) Top 10: - Umi Ishizuka (JPN) – 2:08.42 - Audrey Derivaux (USA) – 2:09.37 - Ellie Clark (USA) – 2:11.65 - Lexi Byrn (CAN – 2:12.78 - Juliet Nicholson (CAN) – 2:14.45 - Alba Arnall (AUS) – 2:14.61 - Ana Julia Aguiar Amaral (BRA) – 2:15.41 - Joice Otero Rocha (BRA) – 2:18.23 - Ariella Riley (NZL) – 2:21.71 - En Vivienne Chew (SGP) – 2:23.74 Umi Ishizuka got out quickly, opening in 28.49, about a half second faster than Derivaux, but that gap would close as Derivaux got back to within a tenth of a second at the 100. By the 150 mark, it was a battle of muscle, as Derivaux and Ishizuka were less than two tenths of a second apart. Ishizuka looked as though she had saved up to the finish, blowing Derivaux away on the final 50 to take the win in 2:08.42, leaving Derivaux with silver in 2:09.37. Though it may not have been the event that Derivaux had hoped for, she did help lead a 2-3 finish for the US, with Ellie Clark finishing 3rd in 2:11.65. Boys 200 Butterfly – Finals - Jr Pan Pacs Record: 1:55.82 – Aaron Shackell, USA (2022) - World Junior Record: 1:53.79 – Kristof Milak, HUN (2017) Top 10: - Ewan Dalrymple (USA) – 1:56.41 - David Sammons (USA) – 1:57.95 - Ayumu Negishi (JPN) – 1:58.67 - Haru Hiraya (JPN) – 1:59.91 - Archie Kreutzberger (AUS) – 2:00.67 - Danny Park (CAN) – 2:01.00 - Adrian Cheung (CAN) – 2:01.58 - Angus Cran (AUS) – 2:02.89 - Pedro Henrique Oliveira Medrado (BRA) – 2:02.90 - Felipe Garcial Berbel (ARG) – 2:07.23 The first 100 was taken by Ewan Dalrymple in 55.63, the only swimmer in the field under 56 seconds, and he would not be taking his foot off the gas, growing his lead to about a body length though the 150 mark. Dalrymple would not struggle getting his hands on the wall first, touching more than a second and a half ahead of the field in 1:56.41. Though it would be a similar story to the prelims, as the US would claim the top two times in the final, along with David Sammons as the lone sub-1:58 performer in 1:57.95. Ayumu Negishi rounded out the podium with his 1:58.67, earning bronze for Japan.
