South African boxer Bernice Ferreira defeated Canada’s Caroline Veyre by disqualification in one of the featured supporting bouts of the Claressa Shields vs. Kaye Scott card, held at State Farm Arena in Atlanta, United States. Veyre entered the ring as the reigning WBC World Champion and started the fight strongly, particularly with solid body shots. Ferreira, however, maintained the pressure as the bout became increasingly physical. Veyre’s constant clinching repeatedly forced the referee to intervene. In the fourth round, the Canadian was deducted her first point for the infraction. The situation continued in the following rounds. After Veyre was deducted two points, the referee determined that the excessive clinching had gone too far and stopped the fight in the eighth round, awarding Ferreira the victory by disqualification. With the result, Bernice Ferreira captured the WBC Super Featherweight World Championship and remained undefeated, improving her record to 11-0, with four knockouts. For Caroline Veyre, the result marked the second defeat of her professional career, bringing her record to 11-2. Ferreira leaves Atlanta as the new WBC Super Featherweight World Champion and begins a new chapter in the division.
