The Clarets officially begin their campaign this weekend with a Carabao Cup first round tie against Notts County. But it’s not until next weekend, on Sunday, August 16, that their Championship season kicks off with a mouthwatering opening game against title favourites West Ham. After the disappointment of last season’s relegation from the Premier League, Walker is confident the Clarets can stay the course and bounce right back under new boss Nicky Hayen. “It’s a completely different league,” he told talkSPORT. “Any team can beat any team, so you just have to make sure you hit the ground running. “Getting the points on the board as quickly as possible and trying to create a gap amid all the chaos around the play-offs, which will now be eight teams, it’s going to be carnage this year, but hopefully our quality will shine through. “We’ve been fortunate to keep hold of most of the players, although some have obviously gone after having a really good season and needing to stay in the Premier League. “But apart from that, we’ve kept hold of a lot of players and we need to make sure this club gets back to the Premier League.” Subscribe now for HALF PRICE and catch every minute of our Clarets coverage this season - from pre-season to the final whistle. Click here Now pre-season is done and dusted with, Walker is looking forward to getting back to the competitive action in what will be his first taste of the Championship since 2011. “It’s been good,” the 36-year-old added. “We did a tour of America, which was good to get out there and see the fans and have a little bit of better weather than when we make that trip down the motorway to Burnley. “But it’s all about getting promoted. I feel like this club needs to be in the Premier League. “Last season was a big disappointment. For us, we can take some positives out of that, but there weren’t many. “It’s now about getting those three points on the board and making sure every Tuesday and Saturday we turn up and give the fans something to sing about again and get this club back up to the Premier League, which is where they need to be.”
