Haissem Hassan appears to be moving closer to Celtic, with Real Oviedo confirming to CeltsAreHere that the latest information surrounding the proposed transfer is correct.
As Celtic continue to work towards completing the move, an incident involving Hassan and former Oviedo manager Veljko Paunovic has resurfaced.
The Herald highlighted the disagreement, which came after Hassan had been frustrated by his place on the bench.
After being involved in a goal, the winger turned towards the dugout and was reported to have shouted: “Try putting me on the bench now! Put me on the bench.”
Oviedo responded publicly to the incident and made clear they were unhappy with the player’s actions.
The club stated: “We believe Haissem Hassan disrespected Veljko Paunovic and engaged in actions that cannot be repeated.”
Hassan accepted that his reaction had been wrong and issued an apology the following day.
“I want to apologise to my coach Veljko Paunovic and his coaching staff, as well as to my teammates, the board and the Real Oviedo fans.
“My gesture during the goal celebration was wrong, it was inappropriate, and it doesn’t represent the values of this team.
“I will continue to work as I have been so that everyone can be proud of me, and it won’t happen again.”
Despite the public criticism, Hassan did not receive a suspension or a fine.
Paunovic was then sacked not long afterwards, although there is no suggestion that the incident involving Hassan played a part in the decision to change manager.
The disagreement offers some background on Celtic’s potential new signing, but Hassan did take responsibility for what happened and apologised publicly shortly afterwards.
Attention will now be on whether Celtic and Oviedo can complete the remaining work on the transfer.
With the financial structure of the proposed deal and Hassan’s four-year terms now confirmed to CeltsAreHere by Real Oviedo, the move appears to have taken another significant step forward.
