Alex Crook: David Raum could be ‘an attractive option’ for Man United

Manchester United could make a move for RB Leipzig left-back David Raum, according to journalist Alex Crook.
United want to land another left-back to provide competition for Luke Shaw. Shaw was decent last term, but his frailties have been exposed in pre-season, particularly in the defeat to AC Milan.
The Red Devils’ priority target is Newcastle United’s Lewis Hall, but the Magpies are not ready to sanction the exit of the England international.
Crook, speaking on talkSPORT, suggested that Man United could make an approach for Raum.
“One to keep an eye on is RB Leipzig full-back David Raum. He played for Germany at the World Cup and was really impressive in their opening game against Curaçao.
“It looked as if he was going to Bayern Munich, but that move has not materialised yet. He has a £34 million release clause in his contract, making him an attractive option for Man United.”
Raum was one of the most outstanding players in the Bundesliga last season, registering 10 league goal involvements, the joint-highest among left-backs.
He ranked first among his positional peers for assists, expected assists, key passes per game and big chances created, highlighting his playmaking quality.
The Germany international also averaged 1.6 tackles and 1.0 interceptions per game.
Raum is highly experienced at the top level, having featured in 143 matches in the German top flight and 19 games in the UEFA Champions League.
If United are looking to sign a left-back that could hit the ground running, the Leipzig star could be a better fit than 21-year-old Club Brugge left full-back Joaquin Seys.
Regardless of their preferred target, failure to sign another left-back could have a significant impact on the Red Devils in the new season.
