Packers First Down for Trees replaces insect-damaged ash tree Packers are planting almost 400 trees in Brown County LEDGEVIEW, Wis. (WBAY) - The Green Bay Packers “First Down for Trees” program is growing more greenspace in Ledgeview. Town crews, with representatives from the Packers, Green Bay Packaging and the Wisconsin DNR, planted a new accolade elm in a local park. It replaces an ash tree that had to be cut down after insect damage. “Ledgeview is a very nature-based community. The tree is going to help people know that they’re home, that they’re in Ledgeview,” the town’s parks, recreation and forestry director, Adam Waszak, said. Town parks officials say the tree could grow nearly 70 feet tall and live 60 years or more, providing shade, reducing stormwater runoff, and helping clean the air for decades to come. This is the 16th year of the First Down for Trees program. Last season, the Packers ran for 394 first downs, meaning 394 trees will be contributed to public spaces in Allouez, Ashwaubenon, Bellevue, De Pere, Green Bay, Hobart, Howard, Lawrence, Ledgeview, Morrison, Oneida, Pulaski, Scott, Suamico and Wrightstown. The program has planted 7,938 since it started in 2011, the Packers said. This year’s trees are provided by Meacham Nursery and Leaves Inspired. Copyright 2026 WBAY. All rights reserved.
