With a logjam at linebacker in Pittsburgh, the latest Steelers rumors and projections suggest the team should release veteran Malik Harrison. This is the second time Harrison has been tabbed as a cut candidate this offseason, even though teammate Patrick Queen has been named to the trade block. However, Bleacher Report’s Moe Moton suggests that since the Steelers have enough linebacker talent, Harrison could be looking on the outside. While TJ Watt, Nick Herbig and Alex Highsmith are the starting three, another LB, including Queen, stands out this upcoming campaign:
“Linebacker Payton Wilson is slated to take on a full-time starting role alongside Patrick Queen after logging a team-leading 126 tackles (six for loss), two pass breakups and an interception last season,” Moton said.
The Steelers also have reunited with Elandon Roberts this month, who’s playing under defensive coordinator Patrick Graham for a second stint since the two were together in Las Vegas. With Cole Holcomb being a solid run-support linebacker, the Steelers will need to make a tough decision.

The Verdict
The Steelers can’t keep everyone, but the former third-round pick has shown signs of inconsistency. Originally selected in the 2020 NFL Draft, the former Ohio State product finished the 2025 campaign with 41 total tackles (25 solo), zero sacks, and zero forced fumbles. It wasn’t the most fruitful season for the former Baltimore Raven, who was a standout in 2024. Unfortunately, since joining the Steelers last year, he’s struggled to blossom in Pittsburgh.
