Leeds United kick off their Premier League campaign away to Nottingham Forest this weekend. Prior to our trip away to the City Ground, Daniel Farke’s squad has three new faces in it. James Trafford, Tarik Muharemovic and Harry Wilson were all signed this summer. Nico Elvedi looks as if he will become a Leeds player before this game too. The Swiss centre-back is on the verge of completing a move from Borussia Monchengladbach. Prior to their Premier League opener, a Sky Sports pundit shared his thoughts on Leeds and the transfer business they have conducted this summer. Dougie Critchley shares thoughts on Leeds United’s transfer business The 49ers wasted little time in identifying Elvedi as a replacement for Sebastiaan Bornauw when reports emerged linking the Belgian defender to Hamburg. In fact, the data suggests that Elvedi in fact is an upgrade on Bornauw. There are contrasting reports regarding the fee we are paying for Elvedi. Florian Plettenberg’s report suggests it is around £8.5million, whilst reports elsewhere suggest we could be signing Elvedi for as little as £6.8million. Either way, the 29-year-old looks to be a bargain, with Sky Sports pundit Dougie Critchley praising that signing, as well as the other additions United have made. In a post on X, Critchley said, “Some really, really smart deals being completed. Nico Elvedi for £6.8million is a sensational transfer from Leeds. “Elvedi, Muharemovic, Trafford, Wilson. There aren’t many clubs in Europe who have made as many immediate first team upgrades this summer.” Another winger being signed this week would be a major boost for Leeds United With Noah Okafor still working his way back to full fitness, Brenden Aaronson started out on the left against Augsburg in our final pre-season game. Most expect the lineup Farke fielded over the weekend to be the one we deploy against Nottingham Forest. Critchley is correct in the sense that the ceiling of our squad has been raised tremendously this summer. But when one of our key players is out, the drop-off in quality is stark. The fact that Aaronson is seen as our second-choice left winger behind Okafor is concerning. That is why it would be amazing if we could get another winger through the door prior to that game against Forest. Ultimately, I think this is wishful thinking, but hopefully the 49ers can pull another rabbit out of the hat.
