Rangers stance on James Tavernier return revealed as star keen to strike deal Rangers have no intention of offering veteran right-back James Tavernier the chance to return this summer, sources have told Football Insider. There has been speculation in recent days as to whether the 34-year-old could yet move back to Ibrox, but it is understood that the club hierarchy are not considering the defender as an option at the moment. Tavernier is also hoping to move on with his career, having spent the entire summer as a free agent. The former Rangers skipper currently has interest from clubs in Turkey, and is hoping to seal a deal to secure his future “sooner rather than later.” Tavernier is still held in extremely high regard at Rangers after his 11 years of service there, but there are no plans for a return to be entertained in any way. The addition of a new right-back has been a clear priority for much of the summer window, but any chance of a deal being struck is now set to go down to the wire. Which right-back are Rangers chasing at the moment? Rangers have considered several options for a new right-back this summer, but Aston Villa starlet Kosta Nedeljkovic is now the latest man who is on their radar. The Gers are reportedly chasing a deal for the Croatian youngster and are considering either a straight cash deal or a loan with an option to buy. The 20-year-old has spent the last two seasons out on loan at RB Leipzig, but made a combined total of just 15 appearances in the Bundesliga. He is now back at his parent club after the conclusion of his most recent loan spell, but has only played bit-part minutes under Unai Emery in pre-season. Nedeljkovic is firmly down the pecking order at Villa Park as they return to the Champions League, and that has opened the door for Rangers to potentially strike a deal. Derek McInnes has been vocal about the need for new signings in the final stages of the window, and Nedeljkovic is someone who could yet come through the door at Ibrox. Kevin Kelsy to Rangers update Football Insider revealed last week that Rangers may find it “difficult” to seal a deal for Portland Timbers striker Kevin Kelsy in the final stages of the window. The Gers have reportedly submitted a £7.4million offer for the 22-year-old, but it is expected that they will have to really push the boat out to land the Venezuelan. Kelsy has netted nine goals from just 18 games in the MLS so far this season, and has also chipped in with two assists for his teammates. The youngster has been identified as a talent for the future at Ibrox, but it has already become clear that it will not be a cheap deal to do.
