Moody did not perform well during the last Commanders training camp block, with a few easy misses in practice. His last field-goal with the Commanders was a 29-yard volley that doinked off the upright and ultimately converted the attempt. Stevens converted from 41 yards out and also hit a extra point moved back by a penalty. Moody was signed off Chicago’s practice squad last season and was the Commanders kicker from that point. He converted 91% of his field-goal attempts over six games, but Washington created competition by signing Stevens as an undrafted free agent. Stevens has a powerful leg and has proven accurate. Per Commanders radio host Grant Paulsen, Stevens was 43-of-48 in practice. He had one rough day – Moody also struggled then – but has been solid outside of that. The Commanders have struggled to find consistency at the kicker position. They’re hoping Stevens can provide some stability at that spot. There’s hope that he can, following his standout career at Iowa. Stevens converted 80% of his field-goal attempts with the Hawkeyes, and hit 22-of-28 last season to lead the BigTen conference. He hit a 58-yarder in 2025, and has shown the ability to convert from distance that has become an expectation for NFL kickers in recent seasons.
