Everton transfer plans dominated another busy day, with a bid for Richarlison rejected by Tottenham, an improved offer made for a winger and fresh developments across several positions.
David Moyes still has work to do before the transfer window closes and, with the Premier League opener against Crystal Palace approaching, Sunday’s developments provided a clear indication of where Everton are looking.
Richarlison reunion bid rejected by Tottenham
The biggest development of the afternoon concerned a familiar face.
Tottenham have rejected Everton’s opening offer for Richarlison, with the north London club reportedly looking for at least £35m before considering a sale.
Significantly, the interest appears to work both ways. Richarlison is reported to want the move, potentially opening the door to a return four years after leaving Everton for Spurs.
The decision now rests with the Blues. They can either improve their offer or decide the money would be better spent elsewhere.
Everton improve Yilmaz offer
There was also movement in Everton’s search for another wide player.
Everton have reportedly returned with an improved offer for Galatasaray winger Baris Alper Yilmaz.
The Turkey international has been among the attacking options considered by Everton this summer and the latest development suggests the interest has moved beyond simply monitoring his situation.
With Moyes still looking for greater attacking depth, this is one that could develop quickly if the clubs can move closer on price.
Fresh enquiry for Assane Diao
Another familiar attacking name returned to the agenda.
Transfer journalist Matteo Moretto reported that Everton have made a fresh enquiry about Como winger Assane Diao.
There is no suggestion yet that Everton have submitted a formal offer, but the contact confirms their interest in the 20-year-old remains alive.
Diao has been linked with the Blues previously and much will depend on whether Como’s position — and valuation — has changed as the window enters its final fortnight.
Everton handed Liam Delap opportunity
Everton could also have an opportunity to strengthen through the middle.
The Blues have been handed a clearer path towards Chelsea striker Liam Delap following the latest developments surrounding his future at Stamford Bridge.
Delap would represent a different type of investment to Richarlison and the two situations provide an interesting indication of the decisions facing Everton.
One offers Premier League experience and an emotional return; the other a younger striker with considerable room for development.
Ben White emerges in right-back search
And, inevitably, there was another right-back development.
Arsenal defender Ben White has emerged as the latest player linked with Everton, with his situation potentially affected by events elsewhere at the Emirates Stadium.
Everton have considered numerous possibilities at right-back throughout the summer without yet finding a definitive solution.
White would bring considerable Premier League experience, although there are several moving parts before this one could become a realistic deal.
Pape Sarr linked with Everton midfield
Everton are also looking beyond their immediate needs.
Tottenham midfielder Pape Sarr has been linked with a move to Everton as the club consider the longer-term succession plan around Idrissa Gueye.
The reporting remains at an early stage and there is no indication that Everton have made a formal approach.
Nevertheless, the 23-year-old would fit the profile of a player capable of becoming part of the club’s midfield for the longer term.
Tavernier remains on Moyes’ radar
The day began with another update on Marcus Tavernier.
Moyes reportedly remains keen on the Bournemouth midfielder, with suggestions that a deal could still be possible before the window closes.
Everton have already opened dialogue with Tavernier’s representatives, although there has been no formal offer to Bournemouth.
That leaves another situation to monitor during what promises to be a busy final fortnight.
Everton have options. The challenge now is deciding which of them can be turned into deals.
Richarlison, Yilmaz, Diao and Delap underline the emphasis on improving Moyes’ attacking choices, while White and Sarr point towards work elsewhere in the squad.
With Crystal Palace visiting Hill Dickinson Stadium on Saturday, attention will soon turn towards the Premier League. Before then, there is every indication that Everton’s recruitment team will remain busy.
