Sunderland & Premier League transfer news: Moussa Diaby club stance revealed & rivals strengthen with new goalkeeper
The latest Sunderland and Premier League transfer news.
Transfer news is beginning to ramp up around the Premier League as we enter the final four weeks of the summer transfer window.
Here’s a round-up of the latest transfer news from the Stadium of Light and a little further afield in the Premier League.
Sunderland transfer news
Sunderland have denied reports that they were close to signing Al-Ittihad winger Moussa Diaby this summer. Journalist Santi Aouna claimed that the Black Cats had “finalised” the France international’s proposed arrival, only for the transfer to collapse because of difficulties securing the necessary points for him to play in England.
However, The Echo understands that Sunderland were not in for Diaby and reports suggesting otherwise have been denied. The 27-year-old could still return to European football before the transfer window closes, with Bayer Leverkusen and Inter Milan reportedly making offers to Al-Ittihad.
Meanwhile, Sporting CP have reportedly rejected Sunderland’s initial approach for Geny Catamo and insist the winger will not leave for less than his €60million (£51million) release clause.
The Echo revealed on Tuesday that Sunderland were interested in bringing the Mozambique international to the Stadium of Light, with talks taking place over a possible summer move. Portuguese outlet A Bola has since reported that the Black Cats made exploratory contact to establish the conditions required to sign Catamo, who has been on the club’s radar for several months.
Hull have broken their transfer record to sign Greece goalkeeper Konstantinos Tzolakis from Olympiacos.
The 23-year-old, capped nine times by his country, has signed a five-year contract with the Tigers. Hull have not disclosed the fee but will reportedly pay £20million for their new goalkeeper. Tzolakis kept 64 clean sheets in 131 appearances for Olympiacos after making his senior debut in March 2020, and was part of four Greek Super League title-winning squads among a number of honours.

“I am very happy to be here,” Tzolakis said. “It’s a big honour to join Hull City. I am ready for a new chapter in my career. I met all the players and staff in Turkey, and I thank them for the warm welcome. “With Olympiacos, I had a successful career with a Conference League title, championship and a cup, also European games and Champions League.
“Hull City is something different because we are playing in the Premier League. We have to fight against top players, so it’s a challenge for me. I feel ready. I will give everything I have every single day in training to help our team to achieve its goals.”
Real Madrid would demand a transfer fee of 150million euros for Vinicius Junior, according to ESPN.
The Brazil winger has been heavily linked with Arsenal, with talks over a new deal at the Bernabeu stalling, and the Gunners could have to shell out around £128million. Crystal Palace are in advanced talks to sign teenage American wing-back Zavier Gozo from Real Salt Lake, The Athletic is reporting.
Fulham have made a revised £25million offer for Southampton midfielder Shea Charles, according to the Daily Mail. Fulham saw a first bid for the Northern Ireland international rejected but have reportedly come back with an improved offer, including add-ons.
