Breece Hall’s morning practice ended unexpectedly early on Monday, but Aaron Glenn doesn’t believe it’s cause for alarm.
The New York Jets head coach says his running back incurred a groin strain.
“I don’t think it was a big deal,” Glenn said, noting that he will be evaluated later.
Hall went down after making a catch, ESPN’s Rich Cimini noted earlier, without being touched.
Hall, 25, later walked off of the field with trainers and did not return.
Heading into his fifth NFL season out of Iowa State, Hall signed a three-year extension worth over $45 million in May. The deal comes after Hall was rumoured to have been available ahead of last season’s trade deadline, as well as the early days of the offseason.
In 16 games last season, Hall carried the ball 243 times and rushed for 1,065 yards, marking the first time in his career that he reached the 1,000-yard mark. The Omaha, NE had four touchdowns on the ground and added another on a catch.
Hall had four carries for 16 yards in the team’s preseason opener on Saturday, a 24-16 loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The team returns to action on Friday with a game against the Pittsburgh Steelers. The Jets look to end a 12-year playoff drought in 2026, opening their regular season on Sept. 13 at the Tennessee Titans.
