David Moyes’ surprise appearance at Turf Moor has reignited transfer whispers around two names, Zian Flemming and Taty Castellanos. The former West Ham boss was spotted in the stands during the 2–2 draw between Burnley and the Hammers, a match that was annoyingly dominated by Flemming’s late heroics
Moyes’ presence wasn’t accidental. According to recent coverage,he was specifically watching Flemming, who struck twice late on and assessing whether the Dutchman could be prised away. Flemming’s stock has risen sharply after his explosive start to the Championship season, and it is unsure what fee Burnley would accept for the attacking midfielder, given his importance and recent form.
Indeed aside from being an ex Millwall player, it’s surprising that West Ham haven’t explored a deal for the attacking midfielder.
As for Taty Castellanos, Moyes has reportedly long admired the Argentine striker. Castellanos, would require a significant outlay but fits the profile of a mobile No.9 Moyes has historically favoured. West Ham will be reluctant to sell, yet there have been reports that the striker is keen on a move back to the a Premiership. It would mean at least two strikers would be required, causing Nuno and Koppen even more problems.
With Everton’s similar need for attacking players, Moyes’ scouting trip adds fuel to speculation that both players could become realistic targets. The only upside for us West Ham supporters is Moyes is known as “Dithering Dave” and with the clock ticking down will be forced into making a decision soon.
Whether he chooses to pursue one or both players also remains to be seen. For West Ham another key player being linked away is frustrating yet inevitably part of second division life following relegation, until the window closes on the 3rd September.
