Sandro Tonali may have just sent a message to Tottenham about the future of Lucas Bergvall after partnering the Swede in midfield in the 3-0 win over Hoffenheim yesterday.
According to reports, Bergvall has appreciated the work Roberto De Zerbi has done with him pre-season, and the minutes he has been getting in his favoured double-pivot role.
The 20-year-old started alongside record signing Sandro Tonali in the middle of the park against Hoffenheim, and the pair seemed to have an instinctive understanding, despite training together for just a few weeks.
Bergvall showed off his all-round game against the Bundesliga side, comfortably receiving the ball in tight areas and carrying it out from the defence, while also regularly making runs into the final third to support the attack.
Sandro Tonali refers to Tottenham teammate Lucas Bergvall as a ‘top player’
It was not only Spurs fans who are lavishing praise on the youngster on the back of his latest performance, but also his midfield partner.
Tonali was seemingly left very impressed with what the 20-year-old produced against Hoffenheim, and he took to social media to appreciate his teammate.
When Bergvall posted images on Instagram from the 3-0 win, the former Newcastle man commented: ‘top player’, on the post.
Does this performance change Spurs’ transfer stance on Bergvall?
Earlier this week, it emerged that Tottenham have changed their stance on Bergvall and are prepared to keep him after De Zerbi informed them it would be a mistake to let him go.
Other sources have suggested that Spurs have failed to persuade the 21-year-old to stay, with the player still keen on exiting in order to have a more prominent role elsewhere.
However, the 20-year-old has been one of Tottenham’s best players in pre-season, and his display against Hoffenheim may have convinced the Lilywhites not to move him on.
At the very least, one would think that Spurs’ reported £60m valuation of Bergvall would have gone up considerably, with the youngster showing that he is a generational talent.
