Arsenal to receive Viktor Gyokeres offer 'in hours' as transfer saga erupts
Arsenal could be braced for fresh interest in Viktor Gyokeres as Barcelona continue to encounter difficulties in their pursuit of top target Julian Alvarez
Arsenal are reportedly set to receive an approach from Barcelona for Viktor Gyokeres in the coming hours as they search for a replacement for Ferran Torres, who has joined Paris Saint‑Germain for €50m (£43m). The Gunners, long‑term admirers of Julian Alvarez, have previously explored offering Gyokeres to Atletico Madrid as part of a deal for the Argentine.
While Barcelona is understood to be Alvarez's preferred destination, Atletico are reluctant to negotiate with a direct La Liga rival. As a result, Barca have turned their attention to Gyokeres, with Spanish outlet Sport suggesting an offer could follow.
After securing Rodri and Joao Cancelo and offloading Tommy Marques to SC Braga, the club are expected to accelerate their search for a No.9. Gyokeres has been identified as an alternative to Alvarez, alongside Inter's Lautaro Martinez and Sporting Clube de Portugal's Luis Suarez.
The report adds that Barcelona will test the waters at the Emirates Stadium and 'make movements in the next few hours.'
The Swede only joined Arsenal a year ago and was tipped to finally solve Mikel Arteta's long‑running search for a reliable No.9. At times, however, the 28‑year‑old has looked unconvincing and remains short of the finished product.

Despite his inconsistencies, Gyokeres still finished the campaign as Arsenal's top Premier League scorer, and many expect him to make a significant jump in his second season in north London.
He made 55 appearances last term, scoring 21 goals in all competitions and helping Arteta's side win their first Premier League title in 22 years. Arsenal paid close to £55m for the Swede last summer and would be reluctant to suggest that investment was misplaced by reducing him to a bargaining chip in their pursuit of a more established striker.
Despite that, Arteta looks to be sticking by his striker. When asked about Gyokeres by Spanish journalist Victor Llebaria Escutia, he said: "Yes, he's going to stay."
Having already brought in Bruno Guimaraes, Piero Hincapie, Illan Meslier and Christos Tzolis this summer, it's clear Arteta and his staff will continue to seek further reinforcements before the September 1 deadline.
Official premium experiences at the Emirates are available now for the 26/27 Premier League season. Make it easier than ever to turn a regular fixture into something genuinely unforgettable.
"Well, we are really active, trying to improve and evolve the team," the Gunners boss added. "That's clear. We expect to have movements in the next few weeks, obviously, because we want to get better like anybody else.
"And you can just see it. The transfer market and our opponents, what we are doing, we won't sit still. And we are very ambitious in what we want to do."
