| Turkish Club Trabzonspor Officially Announces Signing of Mohamed Salah for Two Seasons [Thu, 06 Aug 2026 17:23:11 +0300] Ankara – Saba: Turkish club Trabzonspor officially announced today, Thursday, the signing of Egyptian international star Mohamed Salah to join the first football team for two seasons until the summer of 2028, in a free transfer deal under which the player will receive €17 million ($19.6 million) per season, following his mutual departure from English club Liverpool. The club said in a statement: "Our new player, Mohamed Salah, signed a two-year contract with our club at a ceremony attended by our president, Ertuğrul Doğan." The statement read: "Under the agreement, the player will receive a guaranteed salary of €17 million per football season, consisting of €10 million as annual wages and €7 million as a signing bonus." It added: "The agreement also includes conditional bonuses for each season. Furthermore, he will receive 20% of the revenue from goods sold exclusively under the name 'Mohamed Salah' in our stores, under the image rights agreement with the player." Salah, 34, arrived in Istanbul yesterday, Wednesday, where he was greeted by a massive crowd in an unprecedented scene, before undergoing medical tests. Trabzonspor is set to present its new star to its fans later this evening, Thursday, in a ceremony held at the club's stadium "Papara Park," after inviting supporters to attend wearing the team's new jersey. With this move, Salah opens a new chapter in his football career, having closed the curtain on an exceptional journey with Liverpool that lasted nine years, ending with a mutual contract termination between both parties, despite it extending until the summer of 2027. During his time with Liverpool, the Egyptian international solidified his place among the club's best players, having scored 257 goals in 442 matches, and contributed to winning the English Premier League twice and the UEFA Champions League once, along with a number of domestic and continental titles. His goal-scoring rate declined last season, and he sat on the bench in Champions League matches, leading to a public dispute with then-Liverpool manager Arne Slot. Salah began his European career with Swiss club Basel in 2012, before moving to Chelsea, and also played for Fiorentina and Roma between 2015 and 2017, before joining Liverpool. Trabzonspor, generally regarded as Turkey's fourth largest club after the Istanbul clubs—Fenerbahçe, Galatasaray, and Beşiktaş—finished last season in third place in the Turkish Süper Lig, qualifying for the Europa League play-off round. The Turkish club's last domestic league title was in the 2021–2022 season. |
