The competition, which has been rebranded from the Women’s League Cup, will feature 23 clubs from the Barclays Women’s Super League and Women’s Championship competing in a single league table. Teams will play a series of regionalised fixtures, with the highest-performing sides progressing to the knockout rounds.
Rita Guarino’s team have been placed in the Southern section alongside Bristol City, Brighton & Hove Albion, Charlton Athletic, Crystal Palace, Ipswich Town, Leicester City, London City Lionesses, Southampton, Tottenham Hotspur, Watford and Wolverhampton Wanderers. The Hammers will play six league-phase matches, split evenly between home and away fixtures.
West Ham’s cup journey begins with a trip to Tottenham Hotspur on Wednesday 23 September before Southampton visit east London the following week. The Saints have become familiar opponents in the competition, having faced the Hammers in each of the last two editions.
London City Lionesses are next to visit east London on Wednesday 21 October, before West Ham travel to The Valley to take on Charlton Athletic a week later. The Hammers enjoyed success against the Addicks in last season’s competition, recording a convincing 5-1 victory.
The final two league-phase matches see Wolverhampton Wanderers travel to east London on Wednesday 18 November, before West Ham complete their campaign away to Watford on Wednesday 16 December.
Once the league phase concludes, the top eight clubs in the standings will advance to the quarter-finals. All knockout ties will be decided over a single match, with penalties used to determine the winner if scores are level after 90 minutes.
Quarter-final pairings will be determined by league position, with first facing eighth, second meeting seventh, third taking on sixth and fourth playing fifth.
