Nottingham Forest have entered the race to sign Gustavo Puerta, with the Premier League club now among a growing list of sides chasing one of Colombia’s breakout stars. Portuguese journalist Sebastião Sousa-Pinto reports Forest have started talks with Racing Santander over a deal for the 23-year-old midfielder. Nothing is advanced at this stage. However, the Premier League side have become the latest club to make a move. Forest join Bologna, Porto and Valencia, all of whom have already been credited with an interest in Puerta. Zenit and Villarreal are also keeping a close eye on the Colombian as Racing Santander prepare for what could be a busy few days. The Tigers are looking to get him back. Puerta has enjoyed a rapid rise since leaving Bayer Leverkusen and established himself as one of Racing Santander’s key players. Speaking to El Espectador, the midfielder admitted he now wants to test himself at a bigger club while continuing to play an important role. “My dream now is to join a big club and continue what I’ve been doing, playing and being an important player. “To play in European competitions, the Champions League or Europa League, and become a champion. During the year I was at Bayer Leverkusen I came close. Winning something with the Colombia national team is a dream too.” With more clubs expected to enter the race, Forest have made their intentions clear.
