Aston Villa are reportedly set to complete the double signing of Zion Suzuki and Matteo Ruggeri imminently to bolster Unai Emery’s squad.
It’s already been a busy summer for Villa with notable incomings and outgoings, but it looks set to continue that way in the closing weeks of the transfer window with more new arrivals expected this week.
Emery has already welcomed Johan Manzambi, Joao Gomes and Alejandro Garnacho to the club, and it’s now reported that two more new faces will arrive to continue to strengthen the group.

According to Tom Collomosse, both Ruggeri and Suzuki are expected to sign for the club in the next 24 hours, which given it was posted late on Sunday night, would suggest that we could see announcements on both on Monday.
Further, he adds that an offer is expected to be made to West Ham United for defender Aaron Wan-Bissaka this week, while Emiliano Martinez’s preference is to move overseas still after talks broke down over his touted move to Juventus.
It remains to be seen what happens with Wan-Bissaka and Martinez, but it’s exciting times as Villa continue to bring in long-term solutions in key positions with the signings of Ruggeri and Suzuki as we bring down the average age of the squad and hopefully build a squad capable of long-term success.
Meanwhile, The Athletic report that Suzuki will undergo his medical on Monday morning which ties in with the above as he’ll then go on to complete the other formalities of his move from Parma, with the 23-year-old set to put pen to paper on a five-year contract.
It’s added that the transfer will be worth €35m in total including add-ons, and it’s reiterated that Villa will now facilitate and help Martinez find a new club after a move to Juventus fell through.
Offloading Martinez will now be crucial with Suzuki having been identified as his long-term successor, as it will raise funds to go towards balancing our books with the fee for the Japanese international in mind, while clearing the Argentine shot-stopper’s salary off our wage bill should prove to be a major financial boost too.
It will certainly be sad to see him leave given how influential he has been over the past six years and how important he is in the squad, but Villa are continuing to push ahead with this rebuild, and it’s hoped that our recruitment has been spot on this summer.
