DAIZEN MAEDA, Arne Engels and Kelechi Iheanacho were Celtic’s goal heroes in the 3-1 Scottish Cup Final triumph over Dunfermline at Hampden on May 23.
Who could have known that the strikes that afternoon would be the trio’s last counters for the champions?
Engels completed the hat-trick of vanishing marksmen when he rubber-stamped his £22million shift to West Ham at the weekend and is standing by to make his debut against Charlton on Saturday.
Maeda, who opened the scoring against Neil Lennon’s Fifers in the soccer showpiece, had earlier moved to newly-promoted Ipswich Town with the Hoops accepting a £10million offer for their jet-heeled Japanese raider.
Iheanacho, who completed the scoring at the national stadium as Martin O’Neill’s side sealed an extraordinary double, is now in Turkey with Bursaspor after the Hoops failed to negotiate an extension before his contract expired at the completion of the campaign.
Ironically, Celtic’s other scorer in a Final last time out was Reo Hatate in the ill-fated 3-1 loss to St Mirren in the Premiers Sports League Cup showdown in December.
What are the odds on the Japanese midfielder still being at the champions after the transfer deadline on September 3?
