Celtic are leading the race to sign UD Las Palmas’ Dinko Horkaš as Martin O’Neill aims to bring a goalkeeper to Celtic Park this summer.
On July 3rd, we relayed news of the Scottish champions tabling a €4m bid for the 27-year-old.
Last week, Sport Witness covered claims from Spain that Celtic are the biggest contender to sign him.
Hull City have also shown interest, and Las Palmas president Miguel Ángel Ramírez is standing firm over his €10m demand.
Celtic still leading race
A fresh report from La Provincia, a newspaper local to the Spanish club, covers the latest on Martin O’Neill’s side.
Last season, the Croatian kept 14 clean sheets and conceded 41 goals from 43 matches. His performances for the Segunda División side have attracted interest from a few clubs, including Celtic.
Olympiacos, Torino and Levante UD are keen while Hull City are no longer chasing him. For now, the Celtic Park club are in the lead to sign Dinko Horkaš.
Recent claims from Scotland have mentioned a £3.5m [€4.1m] bid from Celtic, but no official offer has arrived at UD Las Palmas. However, they are aware O’Neill’s side are keen and are awaiting their proposal.
Encouragement for Celtic
Dinko Horkaš has two years left on his contract, and Transfermarkt value him at €5m. His side have been standing firm over the €10m price, but that’s no longer the case.
The newspaper explains the Spanish club are willing to finalise the sale for a lower fee of around €4-7m. This will certainly come as an encouragement for Celtic.
Meanwhile, the Croatian will join the rest of the group for the pre-season training on Monday. He knows a convincing bid is enough to change his situation.
UD Las Palmas are calm and aren’t considering any ‘hasty moves’. There are expectations that the coming weeks will be crucial to define Horkaš’ future.
Celtic have an easy route and are aware of the fee to sign him. It’s unclear whether Martin O’Neill’s side will make further advances.
