Bulgarian rhythmic gymnast Stiliana Nikolova finished the 2026 World Rhythmic Gymnastics Championships in Frankfurt with a gold medal, three silver medals and an Olympic quota place for the Los Angeles 2028 Games.
Nikolova won the world title in the clubs final, while also taking silver in the individual all-around, ribbon and team competitions. Her all-around silver secured Bulgaria’s quota place for the 2028 Olympics.
Her clubs victory ended a 25-year wait for Bulgaria to produce a world champion in an individual rhythmic gymnastics event. The last Bulgarian gymnast to achieve the feat was Simona Peycheva, who won three apparatus titles at the 2001 World Championships in Madrid.
Following the World Championships, Nikolova thanked the Bulgarian Rhythmic Gymnastics Federation, the members of the national group team and everyone who had contributed to her success.
“From now on, the training will become even more intensive because two demanding years are ahead of us, and we will fight for the best possible results,” the gymnast said.
She added that she preferred to keep her personal goals and dreams to herself.
Nikolova’s outstanding performance at the World Rhythmic Gymnastics Championships in Frankfurt further established her among the world’s leading gymnasts and marks the beginning of her preparations for the Olympic cycle leading to Los Angeles 2028.
