Fresh footage leaks imminent Newcastle United transfer - medical today
Newcastle United transfers: Amar Dedic is on Tyneside ahead of his £30million move from Benfica.
Newcastle United are set to complete their sixth signing of the summer this week.
Amar Dedic arrived on Tyneside on Sunday evening ready to finalise a £30million transfer from Benfica. The 23-year-old right-back will also sign a five-year deal at St James’ Park and undergo a medical.
The Bosnia & Herzegovina international was identified as a top target by Newcastle having worked under new head coach Matthias Jaissle previously at Red Bull Salzburg. Sky Sports captured Dedic arriving at Newcastle Airport on Sunday ahead of his planned medical on Monday.
It comes after Benfica head coach Marco Silva confirmed Dedic would miss the upcoming match against Casa Pia due to his transfer to Newcastle being at an ‘advanced phase’.
"Dedić is out of the squad,” Silva confirmed. “I have the feedback that he's in an advanced phase. He's a player we didn't want to lose. Regarding the financial issue, the structure knows better than I do. But for us, Benfica, he was a player we didn't want to lose."
The Magpies have been on the hunt for a full-back all summer after the release of Kieran Trippier at the end of the 2025/26 season. Matt Targett and Emil Krafth were also released while Harrison Ashby and Alex Murphy left on loan which meant Newcastle had a real shortage of senior options in the positions heading into the new campaign.
Tino Livramento is still recovering from a calf injury while Lewis Miley, who played out of position at right-back last season, has only just returned.
It has seen youngsters Leo Shahar and Mason Miley start matches at right-back during pre-season. Miodrag Pivas and Dylan Charlton also started at left-back in Lewis Hall’s absence.
But now Dedic, who is used primarily as a right-back but can also play on the left, is set to finalise a move for Newcastle ahead of the Premier League opener against Liverpool on Sunday, August 23.
When asked about possibly starting Mason Miley against Liverpool following his impressive performance in the friendly defeat against Bayer Leverkusen, Newcastle head coach Matthias Jaissle dropped a potential transfer hint.
“As there is still time to Liverpool, we need to see [who will start],” he responded. “But as you saw also today, [Mason Miley] has the right heart and the right quality to do good, definitely. If he's getting the chance, why not?
“But again, I think there's still also a couple of days to go in the transfer market. His brother can also play this position. So let's see what happens until Liverpool.”
But when asked specifically about Dedic and the reportedly imminent transfer, Jaissle remained tight-lipped.
