It was a mixed weekend across the Wests Tigers Pathways as the Club's Jersey Flegg Cup side were the only team to walk away with a victory.
Jersey Flegg Cup vs St George Illawarra Dragons: 42-36 win
The Wests Tigers Jersey Flegg side started on the back foot, with the Dragons putting on two converted tries in the first 20 minutes.
It wasn’t until the 26th minute that, after a chaotic play with the ball being passed around the Tigers line, it was shifted left to second-rower Mitchell Taotua, who went over for the home side's first try of the game.
Hooker Jeriko Talisau took a dummy-half run from a metre out and powered through four Dragons defenders to score, with Logan Brookes converting to bring the scores level.
It was late call-up Ryder Huth who passed it to Christian Taupau-Moors, who gave him a quick inside ball to slingshot past the Dragons line in the 33rd minute and put the Tigers into the lead.
Just before halftime, Brookes would make a penalty goal, with the Tigers ahead 20-12 at the break.
The second half saw the Tigers heap on the pressure, with Glassie Glassie crossing soon after halftime and Heith Pritchard following soon after.
Huth would go on a strong run before putting in a chip for himself, regathering it in mid-air and going over for his second of the match.
In the 59th minute, Talisau passed it off to a sprinting Kit Laulilii, who took the short ball, added a spin and went over for the Tigers. Brookes converted, giving the side a 42-12 lead.
Despite the impressive lead, the Dragons were let back into the match in the final 13 minutes, scoring 24 unanswered points before the Tigers held on for a 42-36 victory.
The Wests Tigers continue their efforts to make the Jersey Flegg Cup finals, taking on the Sydney Roosters at Wentworth Park on Sunday, 23 August, at 12.30pm.
The Knock-On Effect NSW Cup vs St George Dragons: 36-24 loss
The brave run of the Western Suburbs Magpies to make the NSW Cup finals came to an end at Lidcombe Oval on Sunday.
The Magpies needed to win their last three remaining matches but fell short against the Dragons to leave them six points outside of the top five with two rounds remaining.
Winger Heamasi Makasini crossed for four of the Magpies’ five tries in the defeat to the Dragons.
The Dragons led 24-12 at half-time with Makasini grabbing two tries in the first 40 minutes.
Fellow winger Jeral Skelton also scored for the Magpies.
Western Suburbs now play the Sydney Roosters at Wentworth Park on Sunday, 23 August, at 2.45pm.
NSW Women’s Premiership vs Steelers: 24-20 loss
A late fightback from the Steelers saw the Wests Tigers go down in a tight struggle at Collegians Sporting Complex, Wollongong, on Saturday.
The Tigers scored five tries to four but goal-kicking cost the visitors dearly with no tries converted.
Talented Wests Tigers winger Tia-Jordyn Vasilovski crossed for two tries with Vasaliva Feleti, Litia Fusi and Saige Tautalafua also finding the line.
The loss leaves the Tigers in ninth place, three points out of the top five with two rounds remaining.
The Tigers must beat the fourth-placed Mounties at Lidcombe Oval on Saturday, 22 August, at 12pm to keep their finals hopes alive.
