Stefanos Tsitsipas has been knocked out of the Cincinnati Open after losing 6-3, 7-5 to Felix Auger-Aliassime in the second round.
The 49th-ranked Greek, who reached the Cincinnati final in 2022, was beaten in 88 minutes as the Canadian returned to competition following his five-set quarter-final loss to Novak Djokovic at Wimbledon.
Auger-Aliassime controlled the opening set and continued to put pressure on Tsitsipas in the second, breaking the Greek three times.
Tsitsipas had opportunities to extend the match after Auger-Aliassime twice surrendered a break advantage in the second set. The Canadian also failed to serve out the match at 5-4 as the wind picked up.
However, Auger-Aliassime steadied himself to close out the match, hitting his seventh ace on match point.
The result gives Auger-Aliassime his fourth win over Tsitsipas in their 11 meetings.
For Tsitsipas, the defeat ends his Cincinnati campaign after he opened the tournament with a 7-6(4), 7-5 victory over Valentin Royer.
