LAHORE - Abdul Majeed of Lyari emerged victorious in the Independence Day Commissioner Karachi Cup Donkey Cart Race, held amid festive celebrations to mark Pakistan’s 79th Independence Day, with hundreds of spectators witnessing the unique traditional sporting event. Pearl secured second place, while Shah Jahan finished third in the race organised under the patronage of Karachi Commissioner Syed Hassan Naqvi. At the prize distribution ceremony, Commissioner Naqvi, accompanied by Karachi Police Chief Azad Khan and DIG Traffic Syed Pir Muhammad Shah, presented trophies and lucrative cash prizes to the top performers. The ceremony was attended by Additional Commissioner Dr Atif Jalb, ACG Waqas Abbasi, Deputy Commissioner South Javed Nabi Khoso, Deputy Commissioner Keamari Abdul Sattar Hakro, Director Sports Ghulam Muhammad Khan, SOA Treasurer Asghar Baloch, event organiser Abdul Razzaq and several other government officials, sports administrators and distinguished guests. Congratulating the organisers on the successful staging of the race, Commissioner Naqvi and Police Chief Azad Khan announced that the Commissioner Karachi Cup Donkey Cart Race would now be organised as an annual Independence Day tradition. The ceremony concluded on a patriotic note as Ghulam Muhammad led the crowd in spirited chants of “Pakistan Zindabad” and “Pak Armed Forces Zindabad.” UBL officer Zulfiqar Abbas Khan offered special prayers for Pakistan’s peace, unity and prosperity, while Govt College Nazimabad employee Dilawar Abbas Khan performed the national anthem.
