The 12 players set to miss Arsenal clash with Real Betis as delayed return explained
Arsenal and Real Betis will be without several players for their pre-season friendly in Ireland on Wednesday night
Arsenal are due to take on Real Betis in their third pre-season clash of the summer. The Gunners come off the back of a successful start to their plans with a behind-closed-doors win over MK Dons and then the 4-1 win in Girona on Saturday.
Mikel Arteta has been grateful to properly get things underway following the delay of the World Cup as Arsenal look to defend their Premier League champions crown. They will be reuniting with an old club favourite, Hector Bellerin.
Bellerin made 12 appearances for Arsenal while on the pitch with then-teammate Arteta between 2014 and 2016, and was on the pitch for the now-Arsenal manager’s last ever game in a 4-0 win over Aston Villa. Bellerin then made 51 appearances under Arteta as manager before he left the club at the end of his Arsenal contract, joining Barcelona.

football.london watched on at the Real Betis open training session on Tuesday morning ahead of the friendly in the Aviva Stadium on Wednesday. There are as many as 12 players expected to miss the clash for both sides.
From Betis, Giovanni Lo Celso is still absent, having been involved with Argentina at the World Cup. Arsenal still have eight players awaiting their returns.
Martin Odegaard is back this week, but as football.london broke earlier this week, the skipper will rejoin the group in London following the clash in the Irish capital. Next to come back with will be the English quartet of Declan Rice, Bukayo Saka, Eberechi Eze and Noni Madueke.
William Saliba also fits into this return bracket; however, he will be missing for an extended period with a back injury. Then follow world champions David Raya, Mikel Merino and Martin Zubimendi.
Jurrien Timber is with the squad but recovering from a groin injury suffered last season. While Christian Norgaard is not with the group as he prepares to leave the club after Arsenal agreed a £7million deal with Everton football.london understands.
