Former Leicester City set-piece coach Andrew Hughes has landed a new job in football after joining La Liga giants Athletic Bilbao. Hughes left City last week following the appointment of Russell Martin. The 48-year-old spent two seasons at the King Power Stadium after joining in 2024 from Norwich City to become part of Steve Cooper's backroom team. The former midfielder was also part of Scotland's coaching team under Steve Clarke, replacing Austin MacPhee, who joined the Portuguese national team staff. Last season, the Foxes scored just 14 goals from set-pieces and conceded 20 - they scored only seven in the Premier League. Now, the set-piece coach has landed a new role in Spain with Athletic. "Andrew Hughes will be the set-piece specialist," the La Liga outfit stated. "He will join the team next Monday, having worked in that capacity with Scotland at the World Cup. The Manchester native has been part of the coaching staff at clubs such as Crystal Palace, Leicester City, Norwich City, Sheffield Wednesday, Sheffield United, and Bolton Wanderers." Hughes joins new head coach Edin Terzic, who reportedly approached the former City coach himself. Bilbao finished 12th in La Liga last season and will be aiming to return to the Champions League after appearing in the competition last term.
