Leeds United are interested in signing Carlos Espi from Levante this summer, but the Spaniard only forms part of a shortlist at the moment. After we hopefully get a deal concluded for James Trafford later this week, the focus looks to be shifting towards the attack. Talks to sign Julian Brandt are ongoing, while interest has surfaced in Levante striker Carlos Espi – per the YEP’s Graham Smyth. The 6ft4in goalscorer comes with a £21.4million release clause, which has seemingly alerted clubs in the Premier League, including Leeds. However, with that interest from other clubs, it means he may not be heading to Elland Road this summer. So, the club have to consider alternative options. Here, I look at three strikers that I believe the club should consider as a striker signing… Promise David – Union Saint Gilloise If interest in Espi is anything to go by, Leeds are after someone who is a physical monster in and out of possession. The logic behind it is how we cope when Dominic Calvert-Lewin is unavailable, and replicating his ability to lead the line. So, Union SG striker Promise David is someone I think we could consider. The towering Canada international has shaken off injury troubles of late to continue his progression for club and country. Those who watched Jesse Marsch’s Canada in the World Cup will have noticed David’s sheer presence off the bench. He looks a handful. If Leeds are considering David as a signing, we would have to act fact. Reports claim that Stuttgart have agreed personal terms after a £12million offer was placed. Looking at the strikers on Stuttgart’s books in recent seasons, their recruitment staff clearly know a good forward when they see one. Liam Delap – Chelsea Next, this is a ‘hear me out’ for a player whose perception in the public eye has taken an absolute hammering in the past year. But, Chelsea’s Liam Delap hasn’t become a bad player overnight. He’s just another talented player that Chelsea decided to hoover up as part of their nonsense recruitment strategy. It’s worth remembering how good he was in that poor Ipswich Town side, where he was leading the line as an absolute bully. In a side playing more to his strengths, he could thrive again. Last season, Chelsea wanted him to play like Joao Pedro, which is just a hilarious contrast in ability, and that wouldn’t be the case at Leeds. He can run channels, unsettle centre-backs, take the ball off either foot, and runs a lot. Chelsea are reportedly considering his future at the club as they pursue Danny Welbeck. We could do worse than Delap as Calvert-Lewin’s understudy. Dzenan Pejcinovic – Wolfsburg Market opportunities have been a core part of Leeds’ recruitment under the 49ers. So, when an established Bundesliga side are shockingly relegated, their squad might be ripe for an investment. Wolfsburg’s 21-year-old striker Dzenan Pejcinovic could be someone to consider. At 21, he netted eight Bundesliga goals last season as Wolfsburg found themselves relegated. As a result, he could be available at a reduced fee if Leeds are keen. Like Espi, Pejcinovic could command around €25million (£21.4million) to leave this summer. The German youth international looks likely to leave, and with Wolfsburg’s relegation, Leeds could get a very talented striker under his typical market value.
