Falkirk manager John McGlynn is hopeful that his waiting game for loan signings will finally come to end next week. The Bairns take on St Mirren this Saturday in their Scottish Premiership opener but the gaffer’s new-look squad is still not yet complete despite a host of incomings over the summer. Winger Aodhan Doherty arrived on loan from Blackburn Rovers prior to the Stranraer match while attacking midfielder Joe Gardner joined Falkirk from Nottingham Forest on a three-year deal. And that duo has boosted the Bairns’ group ahead of the home fixture against Craig McLeish’s side, but McGlynn has revealed that he is still after another two players, with one hopefully joining before trip to Motherwell. That game at Fir Park will now take place on Sunday, August 9 at 3pm due to Motherwell’s involvement in UEFA Conference League qualifying. Falkirk still after two additions “We’ve got reassurances that we are going to get them,” McGlynn said. “It’s just a case of waiting on the parent club. One in particular is fairly close. “But to be honest I could have said ten weeks ago that it was done, and it wasn’t. I’m hoping that we get that player next week. “We’ve got a little bit of scope after that. We’ve got some moving parts. There is room to bring another one in after that. “We’ve had great success with the loan players but the challenge is now to do that again.” When asked if any of last season’s loan stars could be enticed back to the Bairns, the boss added: “It’s unlikely. I wouldn’t say impossible. But unlikely.” Falkirk finished in the top six last term, with the likes of Swansea City’s Filip Lissah playing a massive part in the top-half campaign. And although McGlynn concedes that the second season will be “more difficult” - he is still challenging his players to overachieve again. The bottom line is going to have to be staying in the league, but we are ambitious, and we would want to try and hit the same kind of target as we did last season,” he said. “It will be formidable, but we showed last year that we can compete and do well, and we are not going to accept much less than that. “Ambition drives you. What you want to achieve in the game drives you. “Three years ago, getting beaten at the end of that first season, getting battered by Airdrie in a play-off, to now being in the top six. You can see where Airdrie are now, and where we are. I don’t mean badly on Airdrie at all, I’m just putting comparisons. “What we’ve done here is down to hard work, not sitting on your laurels and trying to continuously push and trying to prepare every game as best as we can and trying to get recruitment right. “The league’s a very, very tough league and being in it for the second year we would all imagine it’s going to be more difficult but that just raises your enthusiasm for the challenge.”
