Liam Henderson believes that a “very welcoming” Falkirk dressing room will allow the likes of his new centre-back partner Deniss Melniks - who joined the club in the summer from Latvia - to quickly thrive in the Scottish Premiership. The Bairns take on St Mirren this Saturday in their opening league fixture looking to bounce back from a disappointing Premier Sports Cup group stage. It’s been a summer of change for John McGlynn’s squad with a host of departures seeing the nucleus of the previous group ripped up with the likes of Calvin Miller, Dylan Tait and Barney Stewart all leaving. And that leaves big boots to fill for the new players who have joined Falkirk this summer. Liam Henderson on Falkirk’s new-look squad “These players we’ve lost are massive players inside the dressing room and on the pitch, so to replace them is very difficult in a short space of time.” Henderson admitted. “Also, the budget that we’ve got doesn’t compare to other teams in the league. “We’ve been together throughout these three seasons so you create bonds, you create partnerships, friendships that you take on to the pitch, so you can’t buy that straight away. “That’s formed by relationships and our culture in the dressing room, senior players, coaching staff, to build that kind of relationship in there, so that takes time. “But on the pitch, the boys have got quality. Anyone can come and do well. The dressing room that we have, we’re very open, we’re very welcoming. “For instance, Barney coming in from a uni team and moving on 18 months and making himself a fortune is because of the culture that we’ve created in this dressing room. “Obviously he’s scored goals, don’t get me wrong, but to feel free to go and do that and enjoy football is a massive part of how we operate in the dressing room.” The 29-year-old added: “There’s loads of different things but mainly making them feel welcome and having a bit of banter with them in the dressing room. “It makes you want to come into your training and your work to ultimately be with your mates in a dressing room having a laugh, but then when you go over that white line, that’s when it’s serious. “So when stuff happens on the pitch, training, whatever, that’s done. You go back in the changing room and we’re all mates.” On his new centre-back partner, Henderson joked: “He’s been great. He just needs to start talking to me! “Deniss is obviously coming from a new country and this is a second language for him. I am trying my best to help. I always say to him the more he talks to me the easier it makes the job easier. “But he has been brilliant so far. It is a new environment and new culture. No-one expected his long throw! It’s a big tool in his pocket. Meanwhile, the Falkirk ace - who tied the knot on June 10 with his partner Taylor - revealed how his wedding day nearly didn’t go to plan... Liam married Taylor in Altea near Benidorm with two of best pals, Calvin Miller and Coll Donaldson, both in attendance despite the duo having to make a quick hop across the Med from Brad Spencer’s stag do. He said: “The celebrant actually burst all his nose open because something fell on him. He left and then I was up there alone waiting on Taylor. “I was thinking at that point I wasn’t getting married today! But luckily the celebrant got himself sorted out although he had a big cut on his nose. “The venue was beautiful, overlooking the sea. But we are skint now! We had all our guests in the same hotel and spent a week there leading up to the wedding. We managed three days in Ibiza too for our honeymoon. “Calvin and Coll were here. And they were both actually at Brad’s stag do just before it. They flew straight out from that in Ibiza to come to the wedding! I’m surprised they kicked on the way the did...”
