The Blackburn Rovers winger, 20, joined John McGlynn’s just before the Stranraer match last Saturday. And he made a swift debut, coming off the bench during the 3-0 Premier Sports Cup group stage victory. And Northern Ireland under-21 international Doherty could be in line for a start against St Mirren this weekend as the Bairns open their league campaign. Speaking to the Falkirk Herald, attacker Doherty said that making the move to Falkirk on loan was a no-brainer. Falkirk a ‘very attractive’ loan move He revealed: “It was actually at the start of May. That’s when I found out that Falkirk were interested. I was hoping them that the loan move would be done quick because it was a really attractive move. “The way the team play suits me and it is a big club playing in a good league. It took a bit of time to get done but I am so happy to be here now. “I signed a new contract with Blackburn too which I am really grateful for. I am managed to play a few games last season in the Championship. “This is a big step for me coming here. I am buzzing to be here. Playing in the Scottish Prem is an exciting prospect. “The gaffer is a top man. You could get that straight away. He knows how he wants his team to play. He’s very detail-orientated and he always has a plan.” Doherty impressed in his cameo against Stranraer last weekend, and the winger was delighted to get some minutes on the pitch with his new team-mates. “The boys are top,” he added. “Everyone is a character. Getting a few minutes last Saturday was great too. It was a chance to be able to play with the lads. It was a chance to build some connections and see how the lads play off each other. “The gaffer keeps telling me to just get at my man and go forward which is great. That’s what you want to hear as an attacking player. He has given me confidence already. “I’m hoping to play my part on Saturday but the biggest thing is us getting the three points to start off. We need to make our place a fortress.”
