Aston Villa transfer falls through as Zion Suzuki stance clear It has been a busy evening of transfer activity for Aston Villa, who saw two huge updates in two different transfer sagas take place Emiliano Martinez's move from Aston Villa to Juventus is now off. The Argentinian shot-stopper looked set for a move to Turin this summer after the Serie A heavyweights sent a £8.5million bid. Villa even pushed ahead in their efforts to sign Japanese international goalkeeper Zion Suzuki while Martinez's potential transfer was in motion. Unai Emery's side have now reached an agreement with Parma to sign Suzuki for around £25.6m with future add-ons potentially taking it up to £29.9m. However, it's now understood Juventus are not proceeding with a transfer for Martinez. Martinez's move collapsing did not dissuade Villa from pursuing a move for Suzuki. The 23-year-old was also heavily linked with a move to Paris Saint-Germain this summer, but Emery's side are the ones set to sign him. In regards to Martinez, Villa will explore other options. Last season, he was expected to leave the club amid links to Manchester United. When the Reds opted to sign Senne Lammens instead, Martinez remained at the club and played a huge role in the Europa League triumph. Initially, Villa has been preparing for this season with the assumption Martinez would still be a Villa player. Director of football operations, Damian Vidagany even said so in an interview with 365 Scores. The Villa chief said: "The goalkeeper’s future is settled, he is staying with us, and we have no intention of letting him go this summer. "The team needs his efforts and extensive experience, and he is a very important element in our project for next season. All the news published by the media about his departure to Juventus does not reflect the club’s true position. "Martinez is a very important player for us, and we expect him to continue delivering his outstanding performances alongside his teammates.” Martinez is yet to return to the club for pre-season as he was given a four-week break from football, after reaching the World Cup final with Argentina. England and Villa duo Ollie Watkins and Ezri Konsa were also given the same amount of time off after the Three Lions finished third.
