Oliver Glasner is the man pushing his club to sign the Tottenham youngster, but Forest face competition from Newcastle United. The Magpies, too, are lining up another bid for the midfielder after seeing an initial £46million offer rebuffed. Glasner wants to bring in the Sweden international after adding Xaver Schlager to his engine room earlier this summer. The 20-year-old has been heavily involved in the pre-season campaign, despite his desire to leave the club. The Scandinavian talent still has three years left on his contract, so he will not come cheap. “Forest are big admirers of the Swedish international and are very much interested in him, having already had a bid rejected for Bergvall this summer,” Pete O’Rourke exclusively told Football Insider. “I’m sure Oliver Glasner will be looking to revisit that situation if there is a possibility that a deal can be agreed.” Bergvall could be sold De Zerbi admitted earlier this month that he would like Bergvall to stay at Tottenham and develop, but cannot guarantee him a starting berth. These words would not have done any good to improving the player’s chances of staying in North London amid links with Forest and Newcastle. The midfielder started only 11 Premier League games last season, and securing regular minutes could become significantly more difficult following the club’s midfield rebuild this transfer window. The vast range of options available at the gaffer’s disposal threatens the Swedish prodigy’s chances toward becoming a regular starter. While Tottenham’s hierarchy would naturally prefer to retain Bergvall due to age, talent, potential and the requirement of squad depth, the player and his agency appear determined to explore a new adventure. This might eventually force the N17 bosses to sanction an exit late in the transfer window.
