Liverpool handed double transfer boost as targets left out of squad
Liverpool have been handed a potential boost in their pursuits of Paris Saint-Germain pair Bradley Barcola and Ibrahim Mbaye.
The Reds have shown strong interest in the duo throughout the summer.
Barcola and Mbaye's PSG futures now appear in doubt after they were omitted from the squad for their domestic season opener.
The French champions faced Lens in the Trophee des Champions on Sunday night.
Luis Enrique's side met the Coupe de France winners at the Stade Bollaert-Delelis ahead of the new Ligue 1 campaign.
Despite naming a 20-man matchday squad, there was no place in the side for either Barcola or Mbaye.
Instead, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia and Desire Doue were joined in the front three by summer signing Maghnes Akliouche.
Both Barcola and Mbaye were on the bench in midweek for the UEFA Super Cup.
Enrique was permitted to name 12 substitutes for the match against Aston Villa.
Although they were included, neither player was introduced during PSG's 2-1 win in Salzburg.
As a result, Barcola is yet to feature for the club since the start of pre-season.
His most recent action was France's third-place play-off defeat to England at the World Cup on July 18.
As for Mbaye, he has played a part for PSG so far this summer.
The 18-year-old featured in friendlies against Mallorca and Manchester United, scoring in a 1-1 draw with the latter.
Liverpool transfer interest
Barcola and Mbaye's absences comes amid continued interest in the pair from Liverpool.
talkSPORT revealed last month that the Reds were set to launch an opening bid for Barcola.
Although personal terms had not been agreed at the time, the player is said to be keen on a move to Anfield.
PSG had previously valued Barcola at £145million, but have since dropped their asking price to £125million.
Meanwhile, talkSPORT also understands that Andoni Iraola's side are also eyeing Mbaye this summer.
The Senegal international has been identified as a target for their right flank.
PSG are reluctant to part ways with Mbaye but could be forced to cash in with his deal also expiring in 2028.
The teenager scored three goals and added two assists in 24 Ligue 1 outings last term.
