The Owls made a triple signing at the end of last week, bringing in goalkeepers Connal Trueman and Ashley Maynard-Brewer, and forward Mason Burstow. Trueman, 30, arrived on a free transfer from MK Dons, Maynard-Brewer, 27, was available after leaving Dundee United, and Burstow, 22, has come in on a season loan from Hull City. Trueman and Burstow played in the 0-0 draw against Accrington Stanley on Saturday. The trio took Wednesday’s total number of new signings to 12, but it is no secret that they need more, particularly in forward areas. There have been some outgoings, too, including striker Iké Ugbo, 27, who has joined Cypriot side Apollon Limassol on a season-long loan. Pierce Charles, 21, Olaf Kobacki, 25, and Svante Ingelsson, 28, have also departed. On transfers, Henrik Pedersen told The Star after the weekend’s game against Accrington Stanley and Oldham Athletic: “Yeah, of course we have a lot to do still. Simon (Wilson) and Kevin (Beadell) are working very hard to find the right players and to get things happen, so they do a great job, and yeah, we're all working hard for this.” The transfer market closes on September 1, although clubs can still sign free agents after the deadline. The Owls have admitted that this window could be ‘messy’ as they aim to clean up the mess left behind by last season’s financial troubles last season. So far, Wednesday have signed a mix of youth and experience, as they try to strike the right balance between players for the here and now and ones for the future. Owls sporting director, Simon Wilson, previously said: “I believe in balance, and I think we will be building a squad that is balanced in terms of young, exciting players coming from our academy, but maybe from outside as well that will come in here, be exciting and go on a journey with the club over a number of years. We also need players that are at the other end of their career, who know what it is all about to play at Sheffield Wednesday and understand what it means to the supporters. We need those guardians that can be senior players.”
