Lancashire’s Jos Buttler tasted Hundred success with the Manchester Super Giants at Lord’s. The Old Trafford-based team claimed a five-wicket victory over the Trent Rockets at the Home of Cricket. Buttler played his part, collecting two catches, executing one run out, and scoring 23 runs - which featured three sixes. Noor Ahmad took the first wicket of the contest, with Finn Allen exiting for 13 runs off 15 balls after being caught by Leus du Plooy at the boundary. Fellow opener Ben Duckett swiftly followed after scoring 31, with wicket-keeper Buttler taking his first catch. From there, key figures for the Rockets continued to fall. Sam Billings was limited to just four off five before being run out by Buttler after a scramble to reach the stumps. Meanwhile, ex-Lancashire overseas star Tim David faced just one ball, as Noor collected his third wicket, with the Australian’s former Red Rose teammate alert again to collect. Aneurin Donald proved to be the one most difficult to remove, top scoring with 38 off 19, before being bowled by Liam Dawson. Lewis Gregory wasn’t far behind that personal total, hitting 33 prior to being caught by Heinrich Klaasen to give Josh Tongue a wicket. The South African was also on hand to collect for Sonny Baker - who took the stumps of Calvin Harrison on the very next ball, and the last of the innings, leaving Mitch Santer not out for 20 and the Rockets with an overall total of 158-8. For the Super Giants, openers Tim Seifert and Paul Walter had started the innings well by the time the latter was dismissed for 22 and Buttler entered the action. The Lancs man was able to play his part, keeping things ticking along nicely before playing a shot into the hands of David for a Harrison wicket. Seifert was the true inspiration behind the win for the Manchester side, smashing an individual tally of 72 off 38 - including seven sixes. Finn Allen had been unlucky not to contribute to his dismissal earlier, with his foot clipping the boundary as he pushed the ball back into play for a Harrison catch, prior to the New Zealand international eventually being taken by Mohannad Amir. After the 31-year-old’s exit, du Plooy (27) was just about able to keep things ticking along with Klaasen (11), Michael Bracewell (0), and then Dawson - who smashed a six to help the Super Giants get over the line with two balls to spare to pick up the franchise’s first title in the first year of their rebrand. Elsewhere, in the first final of the day, Kate Cross’ Sunrisers Leeds found themselves well beaten by the Rockets’ Women. The Headingley-based side endured a tough start to their innings, losing three wickets during the powerplay. By the time Cross entered the action, the Sunrisers were seven down with just 62 runs on the board off 61 balls. The Lancashire bowler scored seven off the 10 deliveries she faced, outlasting Dani Gibson in the middle, before being bowled by Georgia Adams. Sam Bates claimed the final wicket for the Rockets, as they limited their opponents to just 91 runs off 90 balls. It didn’t take long for the Trent Bridge-based outfit to beat that total, with Sophia Dunkley top scoring with 41 off 23 for an eight-wicket victory. With the ball, Cross bowled 10 times, conceding 18 runs.
