A restaurant inside the Silicon Valley Eataly has been shut down by health inspectors after they discovered vermin in the kitchen. Terra, a sitdown restaurant inside the Eataly food hall on Stevens Creek Blvd in San Jose, was visited by a Santa Clara County Department of Environmental Health inspector on Friday. While there, the health inspector saw a live cockroach “crawling on the wall above the hand wash sink in the kitchen,” the report said. The restaurant was ordered to close immediately. Advertisement Article continues below this ad Eataly began in Italy as a food hall concept, combining restaurants, cafes, food counters and grocery shopping under one roof. The concept expanded to the U.S. in the early 2010s, and the San Jose Eataly opened in 2022. It’s one of about a dozen locations in the U.S. Terra cannot reopen until it removes the cockroaches, sanitizes all surfaces, throws away food that may have been contaminated and finds and seals any gaps where the cockroaches may have entered from, the health department said. A licensed pest control provider must also visit the restaurant and provide a copy of their report to the health department. No other Eataly food spots had violations during the inspection.
