Travis Kelce is one of the best tight ends in the NFL, and is considered by many to be the greatest tight end in history. He is currently entering his 14th season in the league with the Kansas City Chiefs, where he has spent all his career.
He recently saw a pivotal offseason period, where he got married to popular singer Taylor Swift. However, one person thinks that he will not be the same player as before.
Shannon Sharpe doubts Travis Kelce will be same as before
Many had believed earlier that Kelce would be retiring after the last season due to his advanced age. But instead, he signed a three-year contract extension worth $54.735 million, though it is reportedly more of a one-year commitment for the 2026 season.
Many are already doubting him ahead of the next season. Looking at him, Hall of Famer and NFL legend Shannon Sharpe talked about Kelce no longer being the same anymore. Having played as a tight end for 14 seasons, he knows what it is like to be in Kelce’s shoes.
Speaking on the Nightcap Podcast, he said, “Trav is not the same guy. He’s not the same. He’s still a top five tight end. But those days of him just taking the game completely over. I don’t think we’ll see that from him anymore… As you get older, it gets harder. It gets harder to stay like that.”
Kelce is currently 36 years old and is no longer the player he once was. He has been declining in his performances for the last few years. In the 2023 season, he failed to extend his seven-year streak of 1,000-yard campaigns. The numbers fell further in the next two seasons, with 76 receptions for 851 yards and five touchdowns in 2025.
Travis Kelce believes in himself for the next season
Despite all the doubts around him, Kelce cannot be written off just yet. The tight end has already announced his intention to prove himself and is aiming to be better than the previous seasons.
During training camp on August 13, 2026, he said, “I’ve still got a lot of love for this game. I still think I can go out and play at a high level, and I want to go out there and prove to myself that I can play at a better level than I did last year. I think that’s probably the biggest thing for me is making sure that I’m accountable for the guys in this room every single play that I’m out there.”
Travis Kelce will be aiming to have a successful 2026 season with the Chiefs.
