Bradley Barcola transfer twist as Liverpool given hope of completing double PSG deal
Liverpool could be about to secure the signings of PSG duo Bradley Barcola and Ibrahim Mbaye.
Liverpool's prospects of signing Paris Saint-Germain wingers Bradley Barcola and Ibrahim Mbaye appear to have just been given a significant lift. The duo were omitted from Luis Enrique's squad for Sunday evening's French Super Cup clash against Lens. Barcola is Liverpool's primary transfer target on the left wing but the Reds may have to break their transfer record to land the French international. PSG are demanding a fee in the region of £130million, though Liverpool are working to bring that figure down.
Liverpool are in need of two wingers this summer - with Cody Gakpo still strongly linked with Tottenham - and a right-winger is also required to fill the void left by Mohamed Salah, who departed on a free transfer before joining Turkish outfit Trabonzspor. That is where promising youngster Mbaye enters the picture. The 18-year-old sits well down the pecking order at PSG and would command a considerably lower fee than Barcola. Reports indicate that £40m would be sufficient to secure his signature.
Liverpool must move swiftly to get any deal over the line, with just over a fortnight remaining before the transfer window shuts, and Enrique's choice to exclude both players from Sunday's fixture suggests PSG are at least willing to entertain offers for the pair.
This marks a dramatic shift from Saturday's position, when PSG confirmed both wingers were named in the travelling squad.
Speaking ahead of Sunday's fixture, Enrique was keeping his cards close to his chest regarding Barcola's future. When quizzed about the forward, the head coach said: "We have experience knowing that moments don't last forever.
"We have to be more attentive than usual because these moments don't last long, they're fleeting, but we want to keep winning, to be ambitious.
"It's important to find players who love playing for PSG, who like our style. If a player doesn't arrive here with a smile, it's better to have other options."

Should Barcola be signed, Liverpool may be more receptive to allowing Gakpo to leave and join Tottenham. The Dutchman is among Spurs' primary targets as Roberto De Zerbi looks to strengthen his attacking options, having already splashed out considerably this summer.
Liverpool have already brought in Victor Munoz this summer, with the Spaniard featuring on the right when he came on against Como on Sunday evening.
He replaced teenage sensation Rio Ngumoha with Andoni Iraola still working out how best to fill Salah's boots on the right flank.
Both Ngumoha and Munoz are natural left-wingers, and ideally Liverpool would prefer to recruit a player more suited to operating on the right, like Mbaye.
Jeremie Frimpong can operate there, though he will be required at right-back to provide cover for the injured Conor Bradley.
