That breaks the previous National Record of a 3:43.85 set by Yannick Agnel back in 2011 at the French Championships. Marchand dropped a second and a half off his previous lifetime best of a 3:44.70 that he swam in December at the US Open in his home training pool in Austin, Texas. He was out faster today on the first half of the race, flipping in a 1:49.49 at the 200 mark compared to his 1:51.24 he flipped at back in December. Marchand was slightly slower coming home on the final 100 compared to his previous best time but his first 300 of the race had him well ahead of record pace.
