Liverpool player ratings as Cody Gakpo and one other 8/10 in Anfield Como win

Liverpool concluded their pre-season preparations with a 2-0 friendly victory against Como at a packed Anfield on Sunday evening. After a goalless draw between the respective second-string teams in a 70-minute match earlier in the day, Cody Gakpo and summer arrival Jeremy Jacquet both netted before the interval as the Italian side were comfortably beaten. The result means Andoni Iraola's side go into their Premier League opener at Newcastle United next weekend with renewed confidence after losing their previous two friendlies. The ECHO was in attendance at Anfield and here we run the rule over the performance of the Liverpool players. Alisson Becker 7 Little to do until smart save from Rodriguez at his near post, and impressed with confident handling second half before late stop denied Douvikas. Jeremie Frimpong 7 Good run and cross created the opener and better defensive discipline, particularly with one first-half goal-saving challenge. Jeremy Jacquet 8 Got the crowd onside in the opening quarter with one strong challenge and clearly doesn’t mind defending on the front foot. Tapped in the second. Virgil van Dijk 7 More minutes in the tank for the captain who popped up in the centre forward role with one header first half before part in second goal. One good challenge second half as Como threatened. Milos Kerkez 7 Looked to push forward down the left flank but at times exposed by lack of cover as Como looked to counter. Decent overall. Dominik Szoboszlai 6 Frustrated crowd with reluctance to pull trigger given one good opening and only sporadically involved. Booked. Ryan Gravenberch 6 Unable to sniff out some moments of danger from Como and better when being more progressive. Hit the crossbar late on. Rio Ngumoha 6 Wasn’t often involved going forward down the right beyond a couple of good runs, but impressed with his willingness to track back. Florian Wirtz 6 Some promising openings before break but dwelt on the ball too long on occasion and surprisingly slack with some passes for a brief spell. Teed up Isak well second half for one effort. Cody Gakpo 8 Another good showing on the left flank, converted the opener confidently and plenty of energy and aggression before laying on second. Alexander Isak 6 Showed quality when hitting the post out of nothing from the edge of the area, but otherwise well marshalled by Como first half. Close with one second half effort. SUBS Ronald Araujo (for Jacquet 46) 6 Not quite the same impact as the player he replaced but solid at centre-back. Lewis Koumas (for Ngumoha 62) 6 Initially used on the right before switching to the left and wasn't afraid to put himself about. Booked. Trey Nyoni (for Wirtz 73) 6 Having impressed in the day's opening game, a much tidier showing than in last week's Anfield friendly. Victor Munoz (for Gakpo 73) 6 Playing for the second time in the day, came on down the right as Iraola continued to explore his options. Will Wright (for Isak 84) Another to have appeared in both Como matches.
