'Fair play': Nuno makes Burnley admission after West Ham disappointment
Nuno Espirito Santo’s verdict on West Ham’s draw with Burnley
Nuno Espirito Santo praised Burnley for the way they fought back after his West Ham side threw away a two-goal lead to draw their league opener.
The Hammers were leading 2-0 with only eight minutes left to play, only to be punished by former Millwall man Zian Flemming, who struck a late brace to secure Burnley a 2-2 draw.
Burnley were good value for their point, with West Ham scoring twice from their only two shots on target of the whole match.
“Disappointing,” Espirito Santo said afterwards.
“We did a very good first half, we created a lot of situations, we were able to control and stop Burnley.
“Not so good in the second half, but after we scored the second goal, I think we should have done better to keep the result. There are many things that we have to improve for the next one.
“Burnley is a good team, and Flemming is a good striker. They react well, they have chances, so fair play to them.
“I think we did better in the first half, and of course in the second half Burnley reacted to it, and had chances with the post. But this is what football is about, it's about having the ball and not having the ball and defending.
“When you are in front of the result in the last minutes of the game, it's a learning process that we have to do, and fast, we cannot let these two players get away from us.”
